Training Course Brief

This comprehensive 5 day training course provides in-depth skills and knowledge development across all areas of Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and draws on the wide range of experience of the facilitators. The course modules reflect the key tasks required by M&E practitioners as well as the knowledge, behaviors and skill competencies necessary to carry out M & E activities within an organization successfully. The uniqueness of the course is that it covers theory with class lectures, field work with the support of a field assistant and project paper to be completed by a student during or after the training.

Course Outline
The course will be facilitator led, but interactive, allowing participants to work on case studies, apply their learning and share their experiences.

Monitoring & Evaluation Course Content

· Select Strategies (objectives) and Results Chains - developing project

· LFA approaches in designing sustainable projects

· Differences between the LFA and Log Frame.

· Results Based M&E approach - differences between traditional M&E and Results based M&E

· Conducting Situation Analysis---- Introduction to Coordinated Needs Assessment - The Assessment Cycle

· Problem and Objectives Trees, development & rationale for project design and planning

· Theory of Change “ rationale, common categories and levels of change and relationship between expected changes and project objectives

· Assumptions and Risks -“ identifying and managing various types of risks and assumptions

· Developing SMART indicators & importance of external data sources to validity and trustworthiness

· M&E Framework - basic processes for M&E frameworks, frameworks and organization planning and performance management.

· M&E Plans- development of M&E plans

· Data Quality – planning for data collection, data control, collection, collation, analysis & quality issues

· Evaluation- mid-term review and final evaluations

· Adjusting and Learning - how to use M&E information for project/organization learning and decision-making

Training methodology

This training blends theory with practice and considers participation and sharing experience as key elements in its approach. The experienced team of trainers and knowledgeable consultants use participatory methods, rich in visual elements, to encourage contribution. The seminar strives for quality and applicability by ensuring that the training is highly practical, participatory and interactive and learner centered and that training sessions promote a feedback sharing mechanism.

About the lead trainer: Dr. Eunice Njambi-: Dr. Eunice Njambi has PhD and a Master’s degree in community health and development from Great Lakes University, with further training in health systems management from Galilee International Management Institute, Israel. She is a community development specialist with expertise in research consultancy. Eunice is a regional facilitator in Leadership, development of partnerships, strategic leadership planning and development, systems strengthening through policy research and stakeholder engagement and peace and security operations. She is currently working with the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) as a researcher and curriculum designer and also lecturering at Mount Kenya University. She has been a principle investigator in national and regional research with USAID, KIPPRA, Concern World Wide South Sudan, AMREF/ Ministry of health, UNCHR/UNICEF/Action Against Hunger, DONONE Baby Nutrition in addition to supervising over 50 Master’s degree research Students who have graduated.
